Part 1: Money The Last Taboo

“Though what is as sexy, as sweetly taboo as money? I have friends who tell me the lies they tell, the crimes they commit, their intestinal complaints. But they shut up like bad shellfish when you ask what they paid for their house.”

Francine Prose

  • Money and your financial goals are worth talking about.

  • First, understand your financial data and how you compare to your peers

  • Use data and peer insights to better manage

  • Share your own experiences and help others become more confident about money

  • Together we can become more successful financially

  • Not talking about money serves companies not us

Do you ever wonder why people don’t talk about money?

People equate money with worth. They may feel shame if they don't have money or aren't being responsible with their money BUT they also feel shame when they do.

There are a lot of complicated feelings about money and what it says about who we are. When we don't talk about money, it serves the companies we work for and the people who want to sell us things - it doesn't serve us at all. So we have to find a way to get over the discomfort so that we can help ourselves and each other.

Money really is the last taboo.

And while it seems like no one is talking about money, the truth is, there are people talking about money -- about planning, investing, saving, paying for children’s education, retirement -- they’re just not talking to us.

But we think there’s a way for all of us to get a seat at the table, too. A way to share our experiences and put our current status and financial plans into context with our peers.

I’ve worked in the financial services industry for the last 30 years, and I think it's about time we got rid of the money taboo.

Why Impart Wealth?

A recent report by Deloitte, the accounting and professional services giant, says the average Millennial has a net worth of $8K. This is a data point that might or might not help you at all.

But when you talk about wealth with a community of your peers, you not only break the money taboo, you begin to understand the context of your wealth. Are you ahead or behind? Do you have a strategy that works or do you need help just getting started?

That’s what Impart Wealth is all about. We take the richness of this kind of data and share it with you in an online, anonymous community that is designed to harness the power of our data so we all do better.

You’ll get real life examples from your peers that you can put into action for yourself. You can also share your ideas and stories, plus see aggregated peer data so you truly know how you’re doing.

So let’s get started.
